Professional Paint Stripping
Dip and Strip has been established in Cyprus for many years and provides a valuable service to householders and business alike. It is totally unique, being the only dedicated commercial paint stripping service on the island. As the name implies this process removes paint or varnish from mainly solid wood items such as doors, shutters and furniture. They are "dipped" in a large tank containing a combination of special chemicals that soften the paint enabling it to be removed easily. After dipping a cold water pressure wash is used to rinse away the softened material to reveal the original woodwork. In most cases 100% of the old finish is removed. The process is very effective where intricate carving or mouldings are involved.
We provide a complete service. Your needs may vary from stripping a simple piece of furniture to having all the shutters of your house removed and stripped. We can only strip items that are easily removed and that fit in our tank.

No problem!! As you can see from the photograph above they have been stripped completely clean. (The black marks are where the original painter used a blow torch to prevent the knots in the pine from issuing sap or resin which would inevitably spoil the paint finish, nothing to do with the cleaning process.)
The Cost
Although items that we strip spend a few hours immersed in a water based chemical most woods need only a few days to dry out before any refinishing is started. There are no side effects from the solution in the tank either because as soon as the items are washed down with water it neutralizes the chemical straight away. |

This fine pine armoire would cost about £80:00 to strip mainly due to its bulk and tremendous weight. (Whoever made it had plenty of wood to spare!)
Another example is this poor old "Consola" that was made in 1936 (it was signed and dated by the maker on the back panel) we charged £45:00 for this.
Moving down drastically in size is this very ordinary chair. Although very compact and easy to move, chairs are awkward to wash down thoroughly.
We charge £7:00 for chairs.
handle a lot of wooden shutters and for pricing we have a very straight forward policy covering all the various dimensions. They fall into only two categories. A shutter covers one of two things either a window or a door/patio door, if it covers a window then we refer to it as a "window size" shutter, and of course a shutter covering a door/patio door is known as a "door size" shutter. Some very old buildings have shutters over two meters in height, these we price on an individual basis depending on quantity.
An additional service specifically for stripped shutters is to have them "dipped" in a special solution of wood preservative. There is tremendous benefit in actually immersing the wood in preservative because the fluid literally penetrates every crevice that cannot be reached by brush or even spraying. And crucial to extending the life of your shutters is to allow the end grain to absorb the preservative thereby reducing future moisture intake and dimensional movement. The moisture content of the wood is checked and must be below 18% before this process is effective.
