An explanation of some of the terms.
AROMATHERAPYAn art first used by the ancient Egyptians to soothe pain, aromatherapy has rapidly gained popularity over the past five years. A single type of scent, such as orange, may include several variations: sweet orange, bitter orange, petitgrain (from the twigs of the bitter orange tree), orange blossom, mandarin and tangerine. The Canadian Federation of Aromatherapists was formed in 1993 Our education criteria for a professional aromatherapists is 200 hours plus of in class training by an instructor who course meets the educational standards of the CFA. KinesiologyApplied Kinesiology is a wholistic therapeutic tool that enables a kinesiologist to evaluate your various bodily functions by testing energy levels in your body organs and systems. This evaluation can present you with a fairly accurate picture of how your organs, glands, and body systems are working. Using Kinesiology, a health practitioner can employ any muscle in the body to determine the body's reaction to certain substances. This therapy has been in existence for about 20 years and is becoming more and more popular in the wholistic health movement. This tool is very useful in determining strengths and weaknesses in various body organs and systems. If weaknesses have been found, Kinesiology can then be used to determine what vitamins, herbs, or other supplements the body needs to feed the impaired organs or systems. NATUROPATHYNaturopaths practise a range of alternative therapies, including nutritional
counselling, herbal medicine, acupuncture and homeopathy. They are regulated by the
government in British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan, and must complete
three years of university and a four-year training program that leads to the designation,
Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine. REIKI"Just for today do not worry.Just for today do not anger.Honor your parents, teachers and elders.Earn your living honestly.Show gratitude to everything. " Dr. Mikao Usui. Reiki is a Japanese word meaning "Universal Life-Force-Energy". The
"Ki" part is the same word as Chi or Qi, the Chinese word for the
energy which underlies everything. Reiki is a system for channeling that energy to someone
for the purpose of healing. It was discovered by Dr. Usui in the late 1800's, a teacher or
perhaps dean of a Christian school in Japan.
THERAPEUTIC TOUCHDeveloped by a New York City nurse in the early 1970s, therapeutic touch has since
gained support in the United States and Canada. There are no formal credentials for
therapists, but training programs are offered in Ontario and Alberta. Therapists believe
that the technique can help the patient direct his or her own energy towards healing.
Although no scientific studies support that claim, many patients report that the slow
sweeps of the hands and arms just above their bodies produce relaxation, reduce anxiety
and promote healing. |
