The Foundation is an non-profitable organization aiming towards becoming the biggest Greek registry regarding number of registered volunteer bone marrow donors . Right now we have registered and tissue typed 6000 volunteer donors but still we have a long way to go since our goal is to reach 30,000 donors. The reason for this goal is that a leukaemia patient or a patient with some other hematological disease, who is in need of an unrelated bone marrow transplantation is said to have the possibility of 1 in a 25,000 to find a matching donor. Unfortunately the number of patients whose last hope for life is an unrelated bone marrow transplantation is increasing every day and the only way to help is try our best to register as many donors we possibly can so that the possibility of finding a compatible donor for these patients becomes a reality. Calling all UK citizens living in Paphos. There is a branch of the UK Citizens Association near you! We are almost 1,000 strong and have a lovely clubhouse overlooking the sea on Tombs of the Kings Road, almost opposite the George Hotel. There is a full programme of activities, an excellent book and video library and regular events so come along to the Club any Tuesday or Friday morning to speak to the Membership Secretary, or ring him on 06 946404. If you are passing the Clubhouse at any time and see cars parked outside, do feel free to call in and look around. We are a very friendly bunch! I'm writing again from Premiere Group, to post the latest press release for our upcoming YOUTH TALENT SHOW. Please come and support talented youngsters, who are travelling from all parts of Cyprus (from Paralimni, Nicosia - you name it) to participate in this fast growing event: The competition is divided into three categories: song, dance and instrumental. There are two age groups, 8-12 years and 13-18 years, with top prizes of £100.00 to be won for each category. Following the success of last year’s Talent Show, Premiere organisers have seen an increase in entries and styles. In the dance category there will be tap, jive and ballet to name a few – young singers will perform well known favorites such as Titanic to classic greek songs, whilst in the instrumental category there are a wide range of entries, including bouzouki and trombone players. Entrance fees are £2.00 for adults and £1.00 for children (free for PG Members), available on the day at the Polemidia Hall . Here are details about the charity Premiere Group are supporting this year, with their Christmas concert 'What Child Is This?' The Cyprus Association for Autistic People DAY CARE CENTER PROJECT The objective of the Association is to open a Day Care Center for autistic persons in Spring 2004. The purpose of this center is to offer a safe environment for autistic children and adults where they can receive educational programs and recreational activities to better their quality of life. This is an important project for the association as it will be the first center in Cyprus that caters specifically for autistic people. As well as offering parent support, and early intervention programs, it will provide a regular program of Music Therapy, Drama therapy, Movement Therapy and self-grooming, for both children and adults. Despite an increase in noted autistic cases there is little awareness of autism in Cyprus. With the opening of the center, the association hopes to broaden our understanding of what can be done to help autistic sufferers. “Not being able to communicate is not the same as having nothing to say”
