Comments Cool site. Please let me know how I can submit my photos from Cyprus (if you would like to exhibit them). Please email me at:  alp99AThotmail.com   Also, a recommendation: Make your pages smaller as they take too long to download and go through. Filika, Andreas Papadopoulos

Hi! My name is Lisa Watson, from Mobile, AL, USA. I am writing a research paper on Greek Foreign Policy and the Turkish Occupation of Cyprus. I visited your web page on the history of Cyprus and was wondering if you could tell me when you all created this web page. I will be using it as a hyperlink and reference in my paper. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated in this matter! Thank you!

P.S. You've done a wonderful job on the web page. It's very informative and interesting! :)

Well done. A very interesting and informative site but please could you include details of the number of visitors to your site. I also have a quantity of photos of the Nicosia green line. Some looking into occupied Nicosia under Ayia Sophia but they are approx. 5 years old but still relevant.

good luck Andy

As an old son of Varosia and Ayia Zoni in particular then adopted by St. John's Church near the harbour, I am very proud to see your magnificent page, from which my wife and I have extracted various recipes such as flaounes, e.t.c. visited old places of interest on the net and really enjoyed the time spent in Cyprus on the Net. Thank you for providing such a link for us migrants with our home. Wishing you a Holy & Happy Easter and the dawning of a New Resurrection for Cyprus and the ongoing situation. E.G. Polson. I think your web site is great. We have been to Cyprus 4 times and we are coming again in August, to Paphos. Can you tell me if I can hire a jet ski for a week. Barry

Mistress@windowoncyprus.com 's   comments. Dear Barry 'Yes you can, but you cannot take it away from the beach where it lives unless you wish to pay your entire life's savings in a deposit.'
Pelam will charge you £35 per hour (1 hour per day) up front for a week. That will get you a wave venture 700. I am told that he is the best at his craft, with nice new machines.

Phone him on 09-603484 and tell him we told you. Have a nice holiday in Cyprus.

I do not like it, I love it! Too bad there are not more positive pages like this one. Not enough people know all that Cyprus, a beautiful island, has to offer. Unfortunately, it is not a highly visited site. Excellent work!

1. The Two-tailed Pasha is not a Cyprus endemic butterfly - it can, therefore, be found in other countries 2. The photo of the turtle coming out of the egg is still on its side 3. Do you give credits at least for the photos? somewhere? - you are using many of mine

Andreas Dementropoulos 19.5.1998
Mistress@windowoncyprus.com 's comments. Hello Andreas, 1.Thanks for the correction (misleading information from a mutual friend, which ten years ago I believe you also thought true, but we all live and learn, I hope.).
2.An egg has no sides!
3. I am as we speak giving due credits for the Pasha Butterfly   which is indeed yours and thank you. The crab is the same crab, same day, different photographer. Yours is on the right. All others are by Jocelyne Daue Vienne and credits are given in the bottom border.

Very good outlay, very informative, we found it incredible that we were able to sit at home and read the menu for a restaurant in Cyprus!! Could you advise us if there is anywhere that serves Vegetarian dishes, we will be staying in Paphos around October/ November. Yours gratefully Darren_EddyATyahoo.com

PS I fully understand if you are not able to reply.
Mistress@windowoncyprus.com 's comments.     Thanks for your nice comments. I don't know of any "vegetarian restaurants" in Cyprus, let alone Paphos, (come on someone please correct me) and often thought of opening one at our old haunt Clunies. However most places will do suitable foods (unless you are a vegan) in which case book self catering.
Good dishes to try will be :Grilled or fried Halloumi and chips (a type of cheese) Fassolia (beans with celery, tomato and potato, yum yum), faggi (lentil based dish) and Greek salad with tahini and (wait for it) chips. We know some others, but not their names (I hope I've spelt the above correctly) but if you explain I'm sure people will try to accommodate you.
I hope you like fruit as the choices at the moment are great.. watermelon, melon, wonderful cherries, pears, grapes, apples, peaches etc..oops you're coming in October (lovely time of year). Have a nice holiday and do send us a report on "Eating in Cyprus as a vegetarian" when you get home.

I love this web site! Do you have any information about Americans living in/moving to Cyprus? Or, any other nationalities, for that matter. Any info you can give me would be great! Thanks! my name and e-mail address - it's Christine Bagetakos at SpeedR9832ATaol.com

Mistress@windowoncyprus.com 's comments. Hey Christine what a great idea ! And so a new section was born Aliens in Cyprus, and Cypriots in outer space ! We have credited your brilliance, thank you, take a look, Do post to it and keep a watchful eye.. There's room for events, and nice to meet you, let me know if you need more.

I can't wait to return to Cyprus, and your site just added to my desire! I was wondering if you could add anything about the Northern parts of Cyprus. My papou was from Famagusta, and I've never seen pictures of it. I thought it would be nice to see the North, regardless of the circumstances surrounding the division. The last thing we should do is forget the North! Yia sas :)
Mistress@windowoncyprus.com 's comments. I would love to take some pictures of the north for you. Unfortunately they just won't let me. But one day soon maybe we will all be in a position to see both sides.

I like your web site very much. It is beautiful and very complete. Last month we spend our holiday at Apt.hotel Lysithea in Larnaca-Bay. I would like to say once more that we enjoyed our stay there very much. The people there (especially Elena !) are very kind and helpful. The apartment is perfectly clean and comfortable. I hope you will bring this message to them, as we did already when we left !
Mistress@windowoncyprus.com 's   comments; I saw Elena and passed on your compliments (It's where we go to swim) she was very pleased, but wanted to know who you are as you didn't put a name. Let me know and I'll tell her.

Hello from Aberdeen, Scotland This family has just returned from a fabulous fortnight in Paphos (direct flight from Aberdeen to Paphos). We stayed at the Sofianna  apart hotel just of the main square in Kato Paphos. This was probably the best 14 nights holiday we have ever had. Yes it was hot! Yes it was humid! But it was good in ALL respects. Good quality food. Excellent quality accommodation. WE NEVER got ripped-off on the price of anything we bought. EVERYONE was friendly and helpful. I cannot recommend the Paphos area too highly. Same for the Sofianna. Visit Troodos and the mountains for cool relief from the heat of the coast. That is simply BLISS! I hope you get the message - we loved Cyprus. We are not Cypriot, and have no connection with the isle, except a wonderful experience. Thank you for a nice vacation Regards Tony Thomasson and family tonyATrgu.u-net.com or t.thomassonATrgu.ac.uk

I wanted to say thank you for providing such a detailed site. I recently made a new friend that lives in Cyprus, by way of computer technology, and now I have a better concept of where and how my new friend lives. Thank you for all of the wonderful maps and beautiful pictures, now I can visualize on the areas that we discuss and be somewhat informed about the cultures. Perhaps some day I can visit Cyprus and my new friend. I can see now that it would be a pleasure and I will cherish the memories forever.

Mistress@windowoncyprus.com 's comments; Thanks for the feedback. We did look into the possibility, but it would fill a Website of it's own and need constant updating. A full time job in fact especially in the summer.

I think we need to know more about your traditions, way to be, clothes or ways to wear, etc. No so long for tourists.
Mistress@windowoncyprus.com 's   comments; We are planning on making this site HUGE! but I'm afraid it's one thing at a time. We are currently researching Cypriot fairy stories and Jokes. The way to be in Cyprus is friendly, fun and polite. Apart from that just be yourself and you'll do fine. As for what to wear, well are you male or female ? It's very difficult to find Vracha's these days (Traditional male skirt like trousery things) and if you want to be an authentic Yaya (Granny) try a black skirt, black stockings and black cardigan.

Other than that your page does provide good information concerning our island, and also represents Cyprus quite well throughout the www.
Keep up the good work.

Greetings! So far I like what I see. I did have some trouble adding my classified ad. I submitted it twice, reloaded the page twice and saw nothing of my ad. Something ain't working right. I hope you can fix that. Secondly, why not shorten the Greenpeace button so folks can actually read it. How about "Greenpeace" and leave out "in Cyprus", which is sort of obvious. Another button could use the same treatment. Otherwise, looks nice. Sure hope you can fix the ad submission.

Martin Adams gaiaATcyprusmarket.com

mistress@windowoncyprus.com 's comments. Thanks for the feedback Martin, It is done, Greenpeace is changed, your ad is posted. Sometimes it takes in submissions and goes on holiday with them to Barbados or Alaska for a while, but then they magically appear on the page that they should have been on in the first place. Sorry for your trouble and thanks for taking the trouble to tell us.

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE AMAZING AMOUNT OF WORK YOU HAVE PUT IN TO THIS PAGE BUT ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT IT'S UP TO US TO INFORM AND ENLIGHTEN THE POTENTIAL TOURISTS ABOUT THE TRUE SIDE OF THE PROBLEM . THIS DOES NOT COME OUT AS ANY FORM OF CRITICISM BUT AS A FRIENDLY ADVICE FOR SOMETHING I WISH TO SEE GROWING AND SERVING THE NATION'S REPUTATION .THEREFORE REMEMBER THAT THERE IS NO TURKISH "SIDE" AS THIS IMPLIES THAT WE HAVE INVOLUNTARILY ADMITTED TO IT'S EXISTENCE OURSELVES . THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATION , I REALLY FEEL PROUD OF OUR COUNTRY. A CYPRIOT STUDENT FROM LONDON .

mistress@windowoncyprus.com 's comments: Thanks for the comments. This is not a political statement anymore than "When I was a young girl in Ireland at the local dance in the pub hall on a Saturday night the girls were on one side of the room, and the boys on the other." This was not a rule, it was just the way it was. The true side of that problem was that in order for it to be a dance, they had to come together on the dance floor.

Congratulations on a Cyprus site which oozes with a modern, bright and open approach! I have lived in Cyprus for three years now, because I fell in love...not with Cyprus, but with my, now, Cypriot wife! Living here is very different to coming as a tourist and my feelings about Cyprus as a country are mixed. I find many things which are, naturally, stressed when promoting the island as a destination to visit. But what I loved about your site was that you do not only present the 'glossy brochure' picture ...you genuinely invite, and include, all shades of view and, as in your history pages, avoid coming across as propagandist. Having come from an open, liberal background in the UK, I find it wonderfully refreshing to find a site that is not tinged with orthodoxy and conservatism. Brilliant ...and more strength to your elbow (or whatever you use to type with)!! Suggestion...how about a 'plus' and 'minus' page for comments? ...for example, the 'plus' of how eating out is always a pleasure ...the 'minus' of how you risk your life on the way home because of appallingly dangerous driving habits. I think a country's image is always strengthened by openness and honesty ....your site is a real step in that direction ...thanks!

Keith

mistress@windowoncyprus.com 's comments: Thanks for the fillip keith, 'Your views',was supposed to be such a forum....ups and downs, however people seem to have used it for other things ..... and now it has become a spammers paradise ! but if you want to run one, just let me know and it shall be done ! Colin and Muriel Homes have visited Paphos twice. We quickly made friends with local and other tourists in this relaxed, wonderful place.

Our daughter, Elaine, has also visited Paphos with her intended, Shaun. They have decided to have their wedding, if possible, in the town where they will be joined by close family and friends. They plan to wed in 2000 or 2001 and would welcome any advice as to how they can go about making the arrangements. Any advice you can provide would be most useful.

EMail colhomATbtinternet.com

mistress@windowoncyprus.com 's comments: Congratulations to the both of them......Firstly they must bring with them a certificate (recent, not less than 3 months old) to state that they are free to marry. What a tremendous site. I don't think I've ever come across an independent site with so much depth, flavour and interest - how did you do it?

I've trawled (i.e. gathered info rather than merely surfed) you site for a couple of hours today and still keep finding bits of real interest. Bungees and hang-gliders to Greenpeace, what a variety.

Keep up the great work and if I can help in anyway please get in touch. It's nice to see a useful site promoting Cyprus in a civilised manner rather than either selling the postcard/holiday image or dwelling in 1974. Both are important of course but the story the tell is so stale now.

Think your web site is great. My family and I fell under the spell of the Island when I served there for 3 years in the RAF. Our youngest daughter was born there. We try to get back every year for a holiday. Oh to win the UK Lottery and buy a property there. Keep up the good work on the web site. I will certainly be browsing through it on a regular basis. Hope to be back on the Island in '99. Happy New Year to you all!

Very useful addition to information gathering for our study tour with our under-graduate tourism students in January. From our perspective we visit Cyprus as a tourism destination to see overseas travel management in action. Our students are interested in the practical issues managers face but equally political, environmental and conservation of the product. The latest political developments (un-biasly presented) would be a useful addition but on the whole easy to interpret and well presented.

A very informative web site If I had one thing that I do not like is the fact that so called Safari Land rover trips are not really a true opportunity to see the Island, it's an opportunity to ruin it.

mistress@windowoncyprus.com 's comments: This is generally true, except we have Exalt (really Eco friendly with a lot of walking) and New Horizon (Small venture, personal service) I think you must have gone with someone else, maybe one of the bigger brasher companies. On the whole though, correct - pity we can't just have walking and slow donkies - what a difference that would make , bring down the pace again (:o)) Don't think there will be much support though!

Good to find an informative site on Cyprus. My parents are buying a place just outside of Limassol and we are thinking of visiting in September. Two questions: 1. what are the exact dates of the wine festival ? 2. we will be bringing two toddlers with us - where can we hire baby car seats in Limassol ?

mistress@windowoncyprus.com 's comments: Question 1. We have asked ! Will let you know when we know. OK.. It is from the 30th of August to the 12th of September.
Question 2  Of course. Go to Cyprus Car Hire at http://www.cyprus-car-hire.com It's one of ours.

I think your website is absolutely fantastic!!! I've been glued to it for hours.... it's far more comprehensive and informative than any other I've come across. One thing that I would like to know about - even though it's not a particularly nice topic is: Holiday nasties in Cyprus - ie. mosquitos, bugs, etc....

Keep up the good work, we're looking forward to our visit in May !!

Loved the site...

I had never heard about Cyprus, until someone contacted me by ICQ.. saying he was from Northern Cyprus... so i started to search some sites about the island....and you can be sure that yours is on my bookmarks : )

Haven't seen it all yet...but it won't take long. it's very interesting!

By the way, I'm from Florianspolis, Santa Catarina in Brazil which also is a little island.. but in the Atlantic Ocean : ) Hope you come visit us some day, for more information I recommend this site: www.guiafloripa.com.br, it's not mine, nor form any friend...I just thinks it's worth a visit, like yours: )

Thanks for sharing all this wonderful things about Cyprus  Aline

mistress@windowoncyprus.com 's comments:  Hi Aline, Loads of pics, sometimes too heavy for the pages. I do hope it takes you a while, as we have 400 odd pages, a little delving should start to make this obvious. Hope to see you here one day.

It is one of the best layed out web site I have seen, but your spelling is cack, it is Oroklini not Oriklini actually pranounced Voroklini

However, Excellent website

mistress@windowoncyprus.com 's comments.. Thanks for the correction, you are of course right (I am always in trouble for this kind of remark, but I feel it coming on......) your spelling is also cack as I believe layed should be laid and pranounced should be pronounced.....however cheers, keep telling us.

I leave in Cyprus for more than 20 years . I can't understand the facts you want to prove in your page. Any page stating that Cypriots are not Greek but Greek speaking is really dangerous . Please mail me at phocaidesAThotmail.com

mistress@windowoncyprus.com 's comments ; I shall explain it to you. These pages are non  -political-non -racist -non - propaganda as far as we can make it so. If it is dangerous to call a cup of coffee a cup of coffee then we are obviously a bunch of subversives and anarchists.

The CYPRIOT people are CYPRIOT.......some speak Greek, some speak Turkish and some speak English.
There are Cypriots who consider themselves Greek as there are those who consider themselves Turkish and then again those who say they are English. Now for the political bit......'we are all citizens of this small and troubled planet.'..and my PERSONAL OPINION is that the fervour of national identity is the dangerous thing for us all. Look at the 'identity situations' happening around the world at the moment.

The 'facts' that we try to prove in our page, is that Cyprus is a beautiful island, with a warm and generous people, that has a lot to offer. What do you want us to prove ??

Thanks for a good Cyprus site. It's difficult to find "Tourist info" on Cyprus on the net except from your site. So all I know about Cyprus is what I read here. I've found a lot of interesting facts and figures here, but I miss some more info about Ayia Napa, where I am going 3 weeks from now. I'm going to spend a week there and I would like to read and see some more of the "Night-life", especially pictures. The same thing goes for the beaches. I'm going to stay near Nissi Beach, and I don't find too much pics and info about it. But I guess I will see enough of it in three week. Anyway, this is the best site I found on Cyprus. Keep up the good work, and expand the content.

It's a splendid website which encourages us to expect a marvellous holiday in Paphos in October - BUT the individual pages take for ever to download and if I hadn't got free weekend connection time I could never afford to wait so long. If you ever do a re-design, do consider much smaller pages/ much more partioning.

Keep up the good work. Don Hastead

I came across this site almost by accident. It is very well done. You do need more pictures of the south coast. My wife and I spent almost a month in Cyprus during 1985 on business and have only fond memories of the country and especially the people. We have discussed returning after I retired and this site may help us in making that decision. We stayed at the Churchill on October Ave. I believe your site needs more hotel selections. I believe it will help a lot. Showing all your fine restaurants with menu will also help because the food is among the best in the world. Thank you for bringing back those memories and keep up the good work on this site. Best regards from Pat and Chuck - Yardley Pa USA

I love this site and it has sold me as a place to visit.... I first got the idea through browsing the UEFA Champions League site and was dismayed that Anorthosis Famagusta FC did not make history for their country. However, since I am an avid football fan I would suggest perhaps a sports site talking about venues, what sports are popular in Cyprus and other things (i.e. someone asked about golf courses).

I think also that more info on weather patterns and things like the generally colder months and how cold they get and summers and how hot they are may be useful for people visiting from a generally very cold or very hot climate (though I see some tips have been given).

Finally, I wondered if there is anywhere that you have randomized interesting facts like people who have swam from, say, Istanbul (always hear about records broken in regards to the English Channel).

I will be visiting again for more info. Keep up the good work. fritzpatrickAThotmail.com

Very, very useful to some one who wants to come and do more than laze on a **** beach and drink lager! I have enjoyed reading the site, and am impressed by the design as well as the contents. Thanks from a Kiwi stuck in the UK
